You Press the Switch: The process starts when you press the window switch. Whether you want to open or close the window, the switch sends an electrical signal to the window motor. Modern vehicles use a momentary switch, meaning it only sends a signal as long as you are pressing it.

Electrical Current Reaches the Window Motor: Once the switch is pressed, the vehicle’s electrical system delivers power to the window motor. The motor is powered by the car’s battery and uses the vehicle’s 12-volt electrical system to operate.

The Motor Turns the Gears: The window motor is connected to a series of gears, which are housed within the window regulator. As the motor runs, it turns these gears, converting electrical energy into mechanical energy. This gear movement is what allows the window to move in the desired direction (up or down).

The Regulator Moves the Window: The gears inside the window regulator transfer the motor’s rotational energy to the window glass. Depending on whether you’re raising or lowering the window, the regulator will move in one direction or the other, guiding the window along its tracks.

The Window Stops at the Desired Position: Once the window reaches the desired height or position, you release the switch. The motor immediately stops receiving power, which halts the movement of the window. In most systems, there’s a built-in feature that prevents the window from going beyond its limits, ensuring it doesn’t overextend or break.
